Lucy & Thomas
ELEGANT WEDDING AT DODDINGTON HALL
LINCOLN LINCOLNSHIRE UK
An Elegant Wedding Venue hosts Lucy & Thomas’ special day
I always feel that there is something uniquely special about photographing a wedding, especially when it’s for a couple as lovely as Lucy and Thomas. Their story is rooted in the beautiful county of Lincolnshire, and not only was it an honour to be part of their special day, but to be able to share that story and it’s highlights with you from the very beautiful wedding venue, Doddington Hall.
An Elegant Wedding Venue for an Elegant Wedding
Doddington Hall, an elegant wedding venue nestled in the heart of Lincolnshire, has always held a soft spot for me and was the perfect backdrop for Lucy and Thomas’ big day. The charm of the Hall and its immaculate gardens, with its rich history and stunning architecture, set the tone for a day filled with elegance and warmth. Lucy began her morning in the serene Delaval rooms, which are tucked away behind the main Hall. The bridal suite, with its high vaulted beam ceilings, is simply amazing. It provided the ideal space for Lucy to prepare for the day, and the soft light streaming through the windows created a beautiful, ethereal ambiance. I couldn’t resist taking some bridal portraits in that soft light, which perfectly complemented Lucy’s radiance on the day and the stunning details of her dress, shoes and jewellery.
Meanwhile, Tom and his groomsmen were getting ready, looking super dapper in their light cream suits at the Shakespeare cottage. Their choice of attire perfectly matched the refined yet relaxed atmosphere of the day, adding to the overall elegance of the wedding.
A Unique Ceremony in the Garden Room
The ceremony took place in the Garden Room of the Coach House at Doddington Hall, a charming and intimate space. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many ceremonies, but this one was particularly special for me. The Garden Room has become a popular choice for outdoor ceremonies, but I still vividly remember being the very first photographer to capture a wedding in this space. There’s something special about being part of history in such a way, and it added an extra layer of meaning to the day for me.
The ceremony itself was filled with the usual emotion and joy. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Lucy and Thomas exchanged vows under the pergola on a summers day. There were heartfelt tears and smiles al round as they exchanged their vows. The Ebor Quartet also provided beautiful music that perfectly complemented the sophisticated atmosphere of the reception.
A Classy Reception with Personal Touches
Following the ceremony, the celebration continued in the Coach House, a bright and airy space that perfectly matched the day’s elegant wedding theme. The decor was simple yet sophisticated, with a lavender and white color scheme that added a touch of romance and tranquility. Every detail was carefully considered, from the floral arrangements by Kay’s Flowers to the tasty cupcakes by Sally. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Lucy and Thomas opted for these personalised cupcakes, which added a playful and modern twist to the day.
One of the highlights of the reception was the surprise appearance of the New York Brass Band, who had just returned from performing at the Latitude Festival. They crashed the first dance, turning what is usually a quiet, intimate moment into a lively, unforgettable party starter. It was one of those moments that none of the guests saw coming but instantly became a favourite memory of the day.
The entertainment continued with Ian Smith, a magician who left everyone in awe with his mind-bending tricks, including bending coins and burning playing cards.
Heartfelt Moments and Lasting Memories
There were so many memorable moments throughout the day, but one that truly stood out was when Lucy and Tom presented each of their guests with handwritten, personalised notes. It was a simple yet incredibly powerful gesture that brought tears to many eyes and I must admit it even brought a lump to my throat. It was a reminder of how much love and care Lucy and Tom have for those around them, and it added an extra layer of intimacy to the celebration.
From the emotional ceremony to the lively reception, every moment of Lucy and Thomas’ wedding was filled with joy, love, and personal touches that made the day uniquely theirs. The team at Doddington Hall, led by Justine, the wedding coordinator, did an exceptional job of ensuring everything ran smoothly, allowing Lucy and Thomas to fully enjoy every moment of their special day.
A Day to Remember
Looking back on Lucy and Thomas’ wedding, I’m filled with gratitude for having had the opportunity to capture such a beautiful, love-filled day at this elegant wedding venue. The warmth and kindness shown by their family and friends made me feel not just like a photographer, but like a welcome guest. It’s days like these that remind me why I love what I do.
To Lucy and Thomas, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. May the love and happiness you shared on your wedding day continue to grow and flourish in the years to come.
