GETTING READY WEDDING PHOTOS 5

I love photographing a wedding day but one of my favouirite parts is the getting ready wedding photos. It’s usually a nice relaxed time where the bride her family and friends take their time savouring the preparations before things start to get a little hectic.

Also it can be a fab time to mix with the groom, bestman and ushers watching on occasion some of them trying to do up a tie that they don’t usualy wear or have a sneaky drink or two at the bar before the wedding guests start to arrive.

Having the getting ready part of your day photographed is a great way to tell the full story of your day and to show your partner the bits they would have missed out on.

So here are a few tips for brides and grooms on how you can get the most out of your photographer during those getting ready shots.

.

HAVE ALL OF YOUR WEDDING DETAILS READY IN ONE PLACE

When your photographer arrives they will want to capture some of the details that make up your wedding day. These may include such things as your dress, shoes, jewelry, perfume, flowers and any other bits that may be significant to you. For the guys this may be details such as special cufflinks, gifts or capturing them having a laugh with friends. To save searching around for any items when asked just place them all together in one area before your photographer arrives and then you can just leave them to it.

REMOVE THE LABELS FROM YOUR DRESS & SUIT

Again in order to save you the time and trouble on the day, remove any labels that are attached to your wedding dress or other items that you would like photographing. This includes also removing the wedding dress from its protective cover again giving you less to bother with on the day so you relax and enjoy that glass of bubbly. Whilst you’re thinking about the dress you may also want to consider the type of hanger you are using. It would be a shame to photograph that expensive and beautiful dress only the photo ruined by a nasty looking coat hanger. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, plain simple and in keeping works best.

KEEP AREAS CLEAR IF POSSIBLE

Now, this might not be possible if you have limited space but if you are able to give some thought to keeping an area dedicated to having your photograph taken or those of the dress it will look so much better in your final images.

Imagine having a wonderful image of you getting ready only to spot several items in the picture consisting of the kids Peppa pig toy, your dogs’ favourite chew bone or your future husbands’ dirty laundry in a pile, not a pretty look.

Also creating a clear area will help when your bridesmaids or mother help you put the dress on a bay window works particularly well for this and usiually provides for some nice natural light.

.

GET YOUR BRIDESMAIDS IN THEIR DRESSES FIRST

Now this tip is not essential but having photographed many weddings over the years clients are usually more delighted with their images if the bridesmaids are wearing their dresses as they help you into yours. This is in contrast to your chief bridesmaid wearing her bright green tracksuit or your mum still wearing her leopard skin onesie.

So if you’re looking for elegant, timeless and beautiful images give some thought to your bridesmaids getting ready first.
